INVESTIGASI PENGARUH HEAT TREATMENT TERHADAP KEKERASAN BAJA KARBON S40C PADA PROGRESSIVE DIES

Abstract
Progressive dies memiliki beberapa part untuk membentuk satu dies, salah satunya part key lock (short). Pergantian part key lock (short) dengan material baja S40C (JIS G 4051). Peningkatan keuletan dan kekerasan pada material baja dapat dilakukan dengan proses heat treatment menggunakan metode quenching dan tempering. Penelitian untuk menganalisa pengaruh heat treatment dengan metode quenching-tempering tersebut diharapkan dapat meminimalkan pergantian part key lock (short). Hasil mikrostruktur menunjukan fasa yang dimiliki oleh material S40C berupa ferrite dan pearlite sebelum dilakukan proses heat treatment. Fasa yang terbentuk berupa ferrite, pealite, dan martensite setelah proses heat treatment. Proses quenching 870o C dan menggunakan media oli meningkatkan nilai kekerasan dengan adanya fasa martensite pada struktur mikro. Temperature tempering 160o C menjaga kestabilan fasa martensite sehingga nilai kekerasan akan tetap stabil di nilai 49,28 HRC.
